Ex- FBI director James the ex-FBI chief has entered an innocent plea to making false statements to lawmakers and impeding a lawmaking procedure.

His legal representative submitted the plea representing him in a national courtroom in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday.

Patrick Fitzgerald announced he would attempt to have the case dismissed for several reasons including that his client, a critic of former President Trump, was being targeted.

The former director was formally accused soon after Trump pushed his attorney general to proceed against him.

Court Developments

In court on mid-week, his attorney Mr Fitzgerald told the judge they planned to submit various petitions to dismiss the case before a court case, arguing the legal action was vindictive and that a federal prosecutor was wrongfully appointed to handle the proceedings.

James Comey's proceedings was first managed by the original attorney, who stepped down under scrutiny from Trump after his examination into a different opponent - NY AG Letitia James - failed to file indictments.

Legal Setting

Mr Comey seemed in positive mood as he came into the courtroom on mid-week, chatting with his legal team and being lighthearted. He was accompanied by his partner, Patrice Failor and daughter Maureen, a government attorney who the Trump administration dismissed.

Upon hearing to the court state his rights and the dual charges against him in the courtroom on Wednesday, Mr Comey was asked if he understood the charges.

"I do your honour. Thank you very much," he informed the proceedings.

Historical Information

Mr Comey was the head of the FBI from 2013 to 2017 and was dismissed about several months into Trump's first administration as commander-in-chief. At the moment, Mr Comey was directing an examination into Russian election interference and whether there were any relationships between Moscow and the presidential campaign.

Throughout his leadership, Mr Comey triggered a backlash from liberal politicians when he declared just days before the 2016 presidential election that he was examining Democratic candidate the candidate's use of a non-governmental email account. Indictments against Clinton were never brought, causing negative feedback from conservative politicians as well.

Present Charges

The federal government assert Mr Comey gave untrue statements to US lawmakers during a legislative proceeding in recent years when he was being questioned about both the email probe as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They claim he provided false information to the upper house by saying he had not authorized someone at the agency to disclose to journalistic entities information about the government examinations.

Government lawyers also accuse James Comey of "improperly attempting to influence, hinder and slow" the committee by providing untrue information to it.

Personal Comments

Through a recording James Comey published to his online platform after he was charged, he declared he was innocent and alleged Donald Trump of conducting himself like a "tyrant".

"Our household have known for considerable time that there are costs to opposing the former president," he commented. "We refuse to live on our knees."
"I'm innocent," he stated further. "Thus initiate a trial."

These allegations against James Comey came after the former president shared on digital channels calling for his top legal official, Ms Bondi, prosecute Mr Comey and additional individuals.
