Exploring a Unique Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Turdy Character on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have found plenty of engaging creations from small studios. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game lets you play a hero that is actually a piece of poop attempting to navigate to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
How you interact is simple: just use a jump control. Throughout one hundred fifty stages, you'll face boss fights and visit a store to acquire customizations for your dung hero.
Plan your actions carefully, as a wrong move forces restarting the level. Leap using floating orbs to hurl yourself upward, navigate disappearing ledges, and touch buttons to unlock new areas. Gather currency to purchase more difficult game content in which the action ramps up.
Graphically, the demo features eye-catching level designs and a killer soundtrack. Its minimalist graphics featuring moving basic polygons may remind gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.
Although tough to recall other games where you play as a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often incorporated fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can create explosives from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as plant food. Unsurprisingly, fecal references is present heavily in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its silly premise, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive accolades, like winning at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is ready at present on Steam, with the final release planned to launch on PC in the fall.
