Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will hear a blend of carols, music and readings from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to budding artists backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
