The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The speculation around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, allowing players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be solved in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
