The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Preview Debuts, Revealing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices

Nintendo and Illumination shared the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. It was showcased in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that focused exclusively on the forthcoming animated feature.

The follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will transport Mario to the outer limits of the universe. In his journey, he meets a different royal figure and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.

An Interstellar Journey Inspired by Classic Games

In the vein of the games from the Wii period that act as its source material, Mario will depart from the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. Throughout his extensive trek, he will encounter once more some familiar faces, for instance the Luma, a popular character from the original cinematic release.

But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Worth mentioning, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also features references to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Star-Studded Voice Cast Returns and Expands

The movie will see the return of the original voice cast, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.

A Big Year for Mario

Mario's latest cinematic adventure is planned to debut close to the 40-year celebration of the original Super Mario Bros. game. In addition to the movie, 2026 promises to be a significant year for Mario and his allies.

The company has a trio of new releases officially announced for that year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Premiere Date Announced

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
