Thomas Tuchel Criticizes Home Crowd Support Following Dominant Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel shared his sadness that the England team did not receive stronger encouragement from the Wembley fans during their decisive friendly win against Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was satisfied to see his team showcase their good form, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the initial stages settling the game. Yet, he was not content with the mood at the national stadium.
“With limited training days to prepare against a well-trained team and we excelled,” the coach remarked. “It could have been five goals ahead at half-time. We couldn’t score the fourth and fifth ones. It was quiet. There was no any energy back from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you deliver in the first quarter? We prevented them get away. When you only hear just Wales fans for 30 minutes, it’s disappointing because the squad earned better encouragement today.”
“I stand by this statement. There’s nothing more than leading three goals up in a rivalry match. I hoped for a bit more backing in periods where it gets difficult.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was excessive support for Wales. It might have aided us to regain energy, but that’s football and that is it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Performance
Away from potentially starting a dispute among supporters, Tuchel also raised eyebrows by omitting Bellingham and Phil Foden from his team selection. Yet the choice was justified by Morgan Rogers excelling in the No 10 position and getting his maiden goal for his country.
“That’s his style,” Tuchel noted. “He is a No 10 and he is fighting for his position.”
Wales Manager Seeks Improvement from Defeat
The Wales manager hopes that Wales, who host Belgium in a important qualifying match on Monday, learn from their disappointing first-half display.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this match,” the manager said. “I need to see our current level. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? Today gives me drive.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Ollie Watkins was taken off at half-time after colliding with a post and may miss out when the national team play their next opponents in Riga in a qualifier on next week.
